“Going back to the old ideas of Oberth, I said I have a relatively dense first stage. And it so happens that the second stage, because it is less dense, fits just beautifully on the first stage. Now all we have to do is remove the neck from Atlas and make it cylindrical all the way and we have a 10-foot-diameter base. For a second stage, that’s just beautiful.”
