| By contrast, the “De-Development” model dictated by Holdren et al. suppresses technology and sells the notion that there are limits to growth because humanity is hopelessly trapped in a hopelessly closed world. In view of Earth’s diminishing resources, a “Planetary Regime” would enforce involuntary population control, reduced consumption, trimmed-down lifestyles and a “substantial transfer of wealth” from the ODCs to the LDCs in order to give “every human a decent life.” They say this is the only “real hope for all of humanity to generate a worldwide spirit of cooperation… and to plan the development of our planet with the holistic perspective so essential to the survival of civilization.” |
